Nha Trang- the Vietnamese series :) The unexpectedly good bahn mi!

Since I started working, I wonder why this place is always so full! You can see the long queue no matter what time you go there, how the weather condition is.

One day i finally got to try it (thanks my friend for queuing!)

Image

We ordered 4 dishes to share, including one satay, a pho, a sauteed beef and a combo

Out of the 4 dishes, the beef is the one I liked best, it is sweet yet doesn’t feeling like artificial flavouring (although i bet that is). The satay is also quite good.

In general, I ‘d say they handled their meat quite well.

However, If you are more in the mood for a pho, I think it might not be the right place.

The beef in the pho is quite tasty, but the soup base (which I consider to be the soul of pho) is kind of disappointing… I can’t say it is bad, but if i need to queue for 20 minutes plus for a pho like this, I don’t think I will be happy… πŸ˜›

For drinks, we both ordered a mint drink, it is very refreshing for a summer day πŸ˜€Image

Environment

The seat is a bit packed inside and given it’s busy condition round the clock, it is not exactly the location where you want to go when you want to have a long meal.

Service

The service is not bad (although in this kind of restaurant, there is hardly any service to expected from or speak of) BUT one thing that really bugs me is that they always serve the dishes to the wrong table (and given everyone ordered pretty much similar thing, you may end up waiting much longer.)

Price

It is more to the pricy end compares to other Vietnamese restaurant in the same street or in Sheung Wan; however, it is still closer to the cheaper compare to other restaurants in that area.

Overall

I would say this is a place to go if you are craving for the meat, but not where you should go if you want a pho. If you want a pho, I would recommend you to go to pho 26 in Sheung Wan or Pho Tai. They are not exactly good (I miss the pho in Vietnam), but it is better for its price.

TIPS

I guess most of the Central people know who I am talking about when I talked about the queue, one way to get away with it– actually you can call and place an order and just go collect it later. The waitress answering the phone was quite friendly πŸ™‚

I went to Saigon about a month ago and the thing I miss the most is the Bahn mi there, after I came back , I started my search for the perfect (or close to) bahn mi in HK.

To my surprise, this is actually one of the best I have had here!Image

The baguette was quite crispy on the outside and soft inside, and you can taste the ingredients (and there are pate! which is rare in Hong Kong).

The not so good side is that the sauce are not very well mixed, so it’s a bit spicy on one part a bit too salty on another and the taste of pate is still not strong enough to my liking.

Compare to the other bahn mi I had in the same area for similar price, I do think it is the best! (and the worse in noodlemi, which I would do a review on soon πŸ˜‰
